Desktop edition
Download myTickrs for your computer
Free, with no sign-in and no telemetry. Your trades, holdings and settings stay in one SQLite file on your own machine. Only the tickers you hold are sent to the price providers you turn on.
Open a terminal, paste the line for your system and press Enter. The installer needs Node.js 24 or newer; if it's missing or too old, it asks before installing it for you.
Would rather not install anything? Use myTickrs in your browser instead.
Windows
Open PowerShell (press Start, type “PowerShell”) and run:
irm https://files.mytickrs.app/install.ps1 | iex
macOS
Open Terminal (in Applications → Utilities) and run:
curl -fsSL https://files.mytickrs.app/install-macos.sh | bash
Linux
Open a terminal and run:
curl -fsSL https://files.mytickrs.app/install-linux.sh | bash
What the installer does
- Checks for Node.js 24 or newer. If it isn't there, it asks for permission and then installs it: with winget or the official installer on Windows, the official installer on macOS, and NodeSource (apt, dnf or yum) or the official build in
~/.local/nodeon Linux. Installing Node.js may ask for your administrator password. - Downloads the latest myTickrs and unzips it into a
mytickrsfolder in your home folder (%USERPROFILE%\mytickrson Windows,~/mytickrson macOS and Linux). SetMYTICKRS_DIRbefore running it to use another folder. - Installs the dependencies and adds a myTickrs shortcut: on the Desktop and in the Start menu on Windows, in Applications with a link on the Desktop on macOS, and in the applications menu and on the Desktop on Linux.
- Starts the app and opens it in your browser. If the browser doesn't open, go to
http://localhost:5050.
Read the script first
Piping a script into a shell means trusting it, so read it before you run it. These are the exact files the commands above download:
- install.ps1 (Windows)
- install-macos.sh (macOS)
- install-linux.sh (Linux)
Signed installers for Windows and macOS are planned, so you won't need a terminal at all.
Starting, updating and removing it
Start it again later
Double-click the myTickrs shortcut. It starts the app in a terminal window and opens your browser; if the app is already running, it just opens the browser. Close that window (or press Ctrl+C in it) to stop the app.
Update
Stop the app, then run the install line again. The new version replaces the old one, and your database (data/), your settings (.env) and any plugins you added are kept.
Back up
Your portfolio is the file data/tickrs.db in the install folder. Copy it to back it up or to move to another computer. You can also turn on sync with a myTickrs cloud account in Settings → Sync to back up and restore; it's off unless you turn it on.
Uninstall
Stop the app, then delete the install folder and the myTickrs shortcuts. This also deletes your database, so back up data/ first if you want to keep it.
Fresher prices, for free
Prices come from Yahoo Finance out of the box, with no key needed. It's an unofficial source and can lag, so prices may be delayed. For fresher quotes, create free accounts at Finnhub (live quotes and ticker search) and Twelve Data (daily history, splits and dividends), and add the keys in Settings → Data providers. Your keys are encrypted on your computer.
Run from source
The code is on GitHub. With Node.js 24:
git clone https://github.com/myTickrs/myTickrs.git mytickrs
cd mytickrs
npm i
npm start
On Windows without the Visual Studio C++ tools, use npm i --ignore-scripts.
Using it from other devices
The desktop edition has no sign-in: anyone who can reach it can use it. It only listens on your own computer (127.0.0.1) unless you change HOST in .env. Only do that on a network you trust, or behind a reverse proxy with its own login.
